Proper Candle Care

Proper Candle Care.

Always use a wick trimmer to trim wicks to ¼” before lighting. Sutherland Avenue uses cotton and paper wicks that tend to form “mushrooms” at the tip of the wick after burning. Remove these prior to use to prevent smoking and prolong the life of your candle.

The first time you light your candle, allow it to burn long enough for the wax pool to fill the entire container. This enables the wax to be consumed evenly and prevents a wax tunnel from forming around the perimeter.

To maintain the strength of your candle’s scent and prevent the container from overheating, do not burn for longer than five hours at a time. Replace your candle when only ¼” of wax remains.

Never place a burning candle near anything flammable such as clothing, books, upholstery, or drapery. Avoid burning candles near ceiling fans or air currents. Never leave a lit candle unattended or burn on an uneven, unsteady surface.
